On This Day (April 24)…A Ladder to Munich

Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed on this day in 1973 at the Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany.

ELP were nearing the end of their Get Me A Ladder, the third tour they had undertaken. During this jaunt through Europe, the band were laying the groundwork for their forthcoming Brain Salad Surgery. The band met with H.R. Giger to look at cover art, and Keith Emerson met with Alberto Ginastera during the tour to ensure they would be able to include “Toccata” on the album. Meanwhile, they also performed several numbers from the forthcoming album which had not yet been recorded, giving concertgoers a particular treat.

Even though the end was near, there were problems on the horizon…
