Deep Purple’s album Perfect Strangers was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America on this day in 1985.

At this time, platinum certification by the RIAA denoted one million sales of the album in LP, CD, or cassette form.
Perfect Strangers was Deep Purple’s first album to receive a RIAA platinum certification, though it was not the last. The album had previously been certified gold in January, and the band had been touring in support of the album fairly steadily since November of the previous year.
Clearly, the reunion of the band to make this album had been a success, if sales are anything to go by!
