On This Day (August 8)…Three Bands to Mansfield

Dream Theater, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and Deep Purple performed on this day in 1998 at Great Woods in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

August 8 was the third day of this triple threat tour through North America, which saw two of the most well-known progressive rock bands and a band which had consistently skirted the prog rock line for much of its career team up for an extended musical experience.

By this point, there had already been some complaints about the length of the concerts. To this end, the setlists apparently began to see some alterations. Namely, ELP dropped “Touch and Go”.

Deep Purple and ELP both had their sets recorded. There is no known recording of Dream Theater’s set.
