On This Day (December 25)…A Purple Christmas

Deep Purple performed on this day in 1968 at the Electric Circus in New York City. Just as they had the previous day, they performed two concerts. I have found no information that does not reflect what I put forward in the December 24 post, including the ad.

Retrieved from here.

This was the only time in Deep Purple’s history that they performed on Christmas Day. Presumably, in every other year of their history, they got to go home to their families for Christmas, or at least got the day off.

There is no known information on their setlist, though it was probably abbreviated due to their playing two shows with support. Likely it included their covers, such as “Hush” and “River Deep, Mountain High”. Incredibly, despite having only been extant for a year, they already had two albums from which to draw on.

No recording of either concert they performed is known to exist.

I talk more about the venue at which they performed, the Electric Circus, here.
