On This Day (February 16)…Works in Western Illinois

Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed on this day in 1978 at Western Illinois University in Macomp, Illinois.

ELP’s gig at Western Illinois University was the third consecutive Illinois college performance. Their Works tour had by now taken them to many universities as they worked their way across North America. Most of the students they performed to would have been young children and teenagers at the time of ELP’s early decade successes, so perhaps would have been less familiar with the group beyond their recent Works albums, which had been released the previous year. That said, ELP is not nearly as inaccessible to young folk as fans these days would have you believe; I first fell in love with the music at fifteen years old, after all!

No recording of the performance is known to exist.

Thank you so much for reading. If you appreciate what I do, consider donating on my ko-fi page or becoming a patron on my patreon! I’m planning on upgrading my wordpress plan to a premium one, which would allow me to improve my readers’ experience. Since I’m fairly broke, I would love it if the costs were offset a bit. Thank you!
