On This Day (January 15)…Black Moon Over Saskatchewan

Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed on this day in 1993 at the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts in Regina, Saskatchewan.

This was the third date of the second half of the Black Moon tour, which had begun in Edmonton two days prior. This was, as far as I can tell, the only time ELP performed in the province of Saskatchewan.

As usual for this tour so far, setlist.fm features an empty setlist. I encourage anyone who was there, or indeed whoever was at the two previous dates, to rectify this. Meanwhile, I turn to the apparent average setlist of this tour to fill in what probably was performed on this night. With bands like ELP, famous for their onstage improvisations, this cannot hope to cover everything.

There is no known recording of this concert.

The venue was the Saskatchewan Center of the Arts, today known as the Conexus Arts Centre. It was constructed beginning in 1967, intended as a project for Canada’s centennial. It missed the mark slightly, however, and did not officially open until August 24, 1970. There are multiple halls within the building, including a convention center which seats 1600 and a main theater which seats 2031 (source).

The centre still hosts a variety of events today, as you can see from its site.
