Deep Purple performed on this day in 1971 at De Doelen in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Deep Purple were at this time on their In Rock World Tour, undertaken to support the album of the same name. In Rock, their first major hard rock album, had been released the previous summer. It was probably the band’s most consequential album, associating them forever with the nascent hard rock movement after their first four albums of psychedelic pop and orchestral experimentation.
While this was the first time that the band had officially performed on New Year’s Day, the group once performed on New Year’s Eve. Quite likely, that concert ran over into the New Year.
There is no known recording of this particular concert.
