On This Day (July 12)…Works Come To Boston

Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed on this day in 1977 at Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

ELP were at this time on their Works Tour. Originally, the group had been booked with an orchestra, with which they would provide new spins on old songs and reproduce songs from their latest album, Works, Volume 1. However, financial issues had forced them to part ways; ELP would continue throughout the remainder of 1977 and the whole of 1978 as a three-piece. They would only play one more concert with the orchestra in August.

This concert is known to have been recorded, and is in circulation online.

I talk more about the venue at which the group performed, Boston Garden, here.
