ELP were at the beginning of their first major world tour, the Tarkus Tour. The album which they were promoting had yet to be released at the time; it would hit the shelves in June. Meanwhile, listeners at early concerts got a chance to preview the title track of the upcoming album, as well as the full treatment of “Pictures at an Exhibition”. The live album Pictures at an Exhibition would be recorded on this tour as well.
