Deep Purple performed on this day in 2002 at the Olimpijski Sports Complex in Moscow, Russia.

Deep Purple performed this concert in a period of transition. The previous month had seen the final dates with longtime Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord, who retired from the band. This was only the second date with keyboardist Don Airey as an official, permanent member of the group. While he had completed a month with the group in 2001, that was done as a stand-in for Lord.
The setlist for this particular concert featured many old hits, as well as two songs from Purpendicular. Most unusually for the time period, “Child in Time” made a well-received appearance.
The concert is remembered by multiple reviewers as excellent and very well-attended. This review in particular goes song-by-song analyzing it. Particular props are given to Ian Gillan and Ian Paice; the former was lauded as working brilliantly despite a recent illness.
In case you want to follow along, the concert has been recorded and is in circulation online. Better yet, it has also been filmed in full.
