The drummer Carl Frederick Kendall Palmer was born on this day in 1950.

Palmer started playing the drums as a child of eleven and ended up turning professional in his mid-teens. By the time he was eighteen, he was touring North America with The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Around his twentieth birthday, he joined Emerson, Lake & Palmer. He was the youngest member of the trio, and as of this writing the last remaining member alive. As well as ELP, Palmer was also a founding member of the band Asia.
Today, Palmer still performs with his band, Carl Palmer’s ELP legacy. He is considered one of the legends of the progressive rock genre thanks to his work with ELP.
Happy birthday, Mr. Palmer! Hope your next year is a good one even if the world is crazy right now.
