Rainbow performed on this day in 1981 at the Sports Arena in San Diego, California.

Rainbow were slowly winding south along the American West Coast on their Difficult to Cure Tour. They had begun with a small amount of club dates to warm up in Virginia and New York before embarking on a long set of dates with Pat Travers.

Rainbow were still in the shadow of Dio-era Rainbow, despite the fact that Ritchie Blackmore was the only holdover since that time. The band had even all but jumped genres, now performing music of a more mainstream-friendly style.
