On This Day (March 28)…St. Louis Salad Surgery

Emerson, Lake & Palmer performed on this day in 1974 at the Kiel Auditorium Convention Hall in St. Louis, Missouri.

Ticket for the show. Retrieved from here.

ELP were at this time on their Brain Salad Surgery Tour, undertaken to support the album of the same name. The group had been touring fairly steadily in the United States since January, though this was only the second concert after a few weeks’ worth of a hiatus.

During the Brain Salad Surgery Tour, the group performed the entire Brain Salad Surgery album in chronological order at each concert. The pieces were interspersed with other hits from the band’s earlier albums. Two different pieces, “Tarkus” and “Take a Pebble”, served as extended improvisational spots.

There is no known recording of this particular concert.
