Deep Purple performed on this day in 1970 at Ostseehalle in Kiel, Germany.

Just days before the band’s release of their first major foray into the hard rock genre, Deep Purple in Rock, the group headlined this festival in Kiel, “Das kleinste Superfestival der Welt”, or “The Smallest Superfestival in the World” if Google Translate serves me correctly. It was a stop on their European Tour, which had begun the previous summer and served to introduce Ian Gillan and Roger Glover to audiences as members of the group.
Purple appeared at this location rather than in Hannover, as originally planned. They would play in Hannover on June 10th, a week after In Rock’s release.
There is no known recording of this particular show.
I talk more about the venue at which the band performed, Ostseehalle, here.
