Rainbow performed on this day in 1979 at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California.

Rainbow were at this time on their Down to Earth Tour. This tour, which had begun in the middle of the US with Blue Öyster Cult, was now on the West Coast. Rainbow now acted as the headliner rather than an opening act to another band.
A review of this concert notes that although Randy Hansen was booked as an opening act, he actually went after the group. During his set, the power apparently got cut, and he ended up walking off the stage. As some previous dates suggested Hansen upstaged Rainbow, it could well be that someone in the band got jealous of their opening act’s acclaim and forced them to go later in the order.
There is no known recording of this particular concert.
