Deep Purple performed on this day in 1972 at the Brighton Dome in Brighton, England.
This concert came as part of the Machine Head World Tour, undertaken to support the album of the same name. The group were currently early in the UK leg of the tour, which had only begun two days prior.
The setlist for this tour included several numbers from the Machine Head album, including the band’s well-known number “Smoke on the Water”. The song told the story of the Montreux Casino’s famous immolation the previous December.
There is no known recording of this particular concert.
This was the second and last time Deep Purple performed at this venue, the Brighton Dome. I talk more about the Brighton Dome here.
