On This Day (September 4)…One Last Long Goodbye to Los Angeles

Deep Purple performed on this day in 2019 at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, California.

Deep Purple were at this time near the end of their Long Goodbye Tour, undertaken to support the album Infinite. While the more cynical may believe the title of the tour was just a marketing ploy to sell more tickets, it seems that the group really did intend to pack it in at the end of the tour! Don Airey even revealed after the tour had come to its conclusion that they had originally intended to finish off in 2018. However, the group obviously continued on, bringing the Long Goodbye Tour to a close. As of this writing, they are planning on going on another tour, this time in support of their album Whoosh!

The setlist of the 2019 dates was slightly altered from the 2018 US concerts. “Time For Bedlam” from Infinite joined the list. “Demon’s Eye” replaced “Strange Kind of Woman”, mirroring the two’s relationship on Fireball.

While there doesn’t seem to be a formal bootleg of this concert, large portions exist on YouTube.
