On This Day (September 8)…Rainbow Over Hammersmith

Rainbow performed on this day in 1976 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, England.

This concert was a part of Rainbow’s first-ever tour of the United Kingdom, during which they introduced themselves to the rock-loving public. Based on the glowing review I’ve read of the performance, the introduction was successful.

One of the most notable factors about this concert was its audience. No less than four former members of Deep Purple were reportedly there: Roger Glover, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, and David Coverdale.

This concert is known to have been recorded and is in circulation online.
